Signs of dyslexia
Dyslexia affects individuals in different ways, but there are some common signs that parents and teachers often notice.
Reading
• difficulty learning phonics
• slow or hesitant reading
• difficulty recognising common words
• avoiding reading tasks
Spelling and writing
• very inconsistent spelling
• difficulty organising ideas in writing
• missing or reversing letters
• taking much longer to complete written work
Memory and processing
• difficulty remembering sequences such as days or instructions
• difficulty recalling known words quickly
• slower processing when reading or writing
If you recognise several of these signs, a specialist dyslexia assessment can help identify whether dyslexia may be present and what support will be most effective.
