Is your child finding school harder than it should be?

Many parents contact me because their child:

finds reading slow, difficult or tiring
struggles with spelling despite trying hard
avoids writing or finds it difficult to organise ideas
takes much longer than peers to complete work
has strong ideas but struggles to get them onto paper
becomes frustrated with homework or literacy tasks
has a family history of dyslexia

If this sounds familiar, a private dyslexia assessment can provide clarity, answers and practical next steps.

What a dyslexia assessment will give you

A full diagnostic assessment provides:

✔ a clear understanding of your child’s strengths and difficulties
✔ identification of dyslexia where criteria are met
✔ a detailed written report
✔ practical recommendations for school and home
✔ evidence that can support exam access arrangements or school support

Reports follow SASC guidelines and are recognised by schools, exam boards and local authorities. Many parents say they felt relieved after getting answers — understanding their child’s learning profile can be the first step towards rebuilding confidence.

How dyslexia assessment and testing can help

A specialist assessment can:

✔ identify whether dyslexia is present
✔ explain why your child may be struggling with literacy
✔ provide clear recommendations for school and home
✔ support applications for exam access arrangements
✔ provide evidence for school support plans or EHCP discussions

Why families arrange an assessment

Many parents contact me when they notice that their child:

✔ works extremely hard but reading remains slow
✔ struggles with spelling despite lots of practice
✔ becomes frustrated with homework
✔ seems bright but progress feels slower than expected

A specialist dyslexia assessment can provide clarity and practical next steps.

My approach

My work is guided by a  number of key principles:

Putting the child first - Assessments are calm, supportive and carefully paced, with time taken to build rapport and respond to each child as an individual.

Looking beyond scores - Standardised scores are an important part of the assessment, but they are not considered in isolation. I pay close attention to how a child approaches tasks, the strategies they use, and where learning begins to feel effortful.

Evidence-informed and reflective - I am Level 7 qualified in specialist dyslexia assessment, hold a current Assessment Practising Certificate (APC), and work in line with professional guidance and current research.

Clear, meaningful outcomes - The aim is always clarity — developing a thorough understanding of a child’s unique learning profile and providing practical recommendations that genuinely support progress and wellbeing.

Specialist dyslexia support

Following an assessment, some children benefit from short-term specialist support to help them build confidence and develop effective literacy strategies.

In addition to assessments, I offer a limited number of specialist dyslexia support sessions for children who would benefit from targeted intervention.

These sessions focus on areas commonly linked to dyslexia, including:

• phonological awareness
• reading accuracy and fluency
• spelling strategies
• working memory and organisation strategies
• developing confidence with literacy tasks

Sessions are structured, practical and tailored to the individual child’s learning profile following assessment.

Some families choose to combine an assessment with a short block of follow-up support sessions to help put recommendations into practice.
